I was able to add hover style, however, the color I've chosen is not reflected. I have deactivated everything but Avada and LayerSlider and I'm not seeing the customization reflected on the site.

If you are using gradient background color for a layer, the hover transition won't change the background color. The CSS handles gradient backgrounds as background-image while background colors are colors. We are working on a solution that will allow to animate gradient backgrounds, but unfortunately you cannot do that in the current version. I recommend you to use a normal background color for your button if you would like to change it by hovering.
Regarding the button in the header LayerSlider.
