Hello, I need to know how to change the shortcode numbers for individual projects. I have copied multiple projects from an old site and instead of changing every page to match the new project shortcode numbers, I'd rather quickly change the shortcode numbers to match the existing codes already embedded on the pages.
Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is John, and I'm happy to assist you today.
The project IDs are permanent and cannot be changed from LayerSlider's interface. You can open your database with the tools that your web host provides (phpMyAdmin, Adminer, etc.) and update the IDs in the wp_layerslider table. However, I'd recommend against taking this route since it can cause inconsistencies and integrity problems.
You can use project aliases under Project Settings → Publish, so shortcodes will use that name instead of the IDs, but this would still involve updating the shortcodes.
Maybe it's something that could be added to a future build list. It would be helpful to be able to edit the shortcode numbers or even to create custom codes to have them be more easily identifiable.
Anyway, thanks for your reply and have a great day.
The mentioned project alias is precisely for this purpose, and you can create custom shortcodes with it. Editing the IDs (numbers) poses some challenges and could easily lead to similar issues you're facing with. The permanency guarantees that it will never change, and the already embedded shortcodes will point to the right project. This is true even if someone moves their site and everything is carried over instead of re-uploading (importing) the projects. Nothing saves you from editing something in this latter case, unfortunately. We also have to consider ID collisions and potential issues with already-used shortcodes becoming invalid if users are not careful enough.
