Update breaks plugin

I have an older version of LayerSlider that came with a theme. I've moved away from that theme and have purchased a license for the new one. I tried updating from 7.2.1 to the latest 7.5.3. The sliders disappear from my site and LayerSlider no longer appears in my admin menu. I've rolled back the install to 7.2.1. I figured I can't be the only one having trouble updating like this so I thought I'd ask.

    Hi Jim,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is John, and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working toward your ticket.

If the LayerSlider menu item doesn't appear in your WordPress admin sidebar, it suggests that the plugin is not active. Please visit the Plugins screen to see if you can see LayerSlider and whether it's activated.

One possible issue I can think of is that your theme might not install LayerSlider in the proper location. WordPress automatically disables plugins during the update process, and if it encounters an issue mid-way through the update, it can result in a case you described.

I'd suggest removing/disabling the built-in version of LayerSlider in your theme, then installing the official release you can download from your account. Removing the plugin won't touch your sliders, they will remain safe and accessible after installing the official release. Once that's done, and you've registered your license key, future updates should work seamlessly.
