Hello- thinking this has to be easier than I am making it wondering if there is an easy way to create a grid gallery that would enlarge each photo when clicked on it in a pop up carousel of all photos on the grid…

The way you described your intended use, it sounds like you'd want an image gallery plugin. Although you can build a grid of photos (with or without LayerSlider) and launch a LayerSlider popup when you click on them, there wouldn't be interoperability between the two. Meaning that the popup would have no idea what was the clicked photo and wouldn't be able to open with the appropriate slide/photo. LayerSlider supports many use cases, even some image gallery features, but it's not an image gallery plugin, which would be needed for this kind of usage.
