Mobile video - not showing

The video on LayerSlider does not play on mobile or tablet. There is also no way to get the video to play. I've been using LayerSlider for months now with no issues, until recently. There has been no change to the plugins I use, and I have not added new plugins that could have made this break. I use SG Optimizer plugin for caching and have removed it to see if that changed anything and it did not. Any advice on how to get layerslider video to show on mobile/tablet is needed, thank you!

    Hi George,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is John and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.

May I ask what kind of mobile devices are you testing the video on? You have a WEBM video with a VP9 codec, which is only partially supported by Safari on Apple devices. Android devices should play the video properly. Was this video working before?

You can review supported audio and video formats by web browsers on the following URL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTML5_video#Browser_support

For maximum compatibility, we recommend using H.264+MP3/AAC codecs in MP4. You can also select multiple file formats for the same video, so the web browser can choose one that it can play.

Hi John, Thanks for responding. So we're aware of the limited WEBM support on Apple products, but the problem is the video was showing/autolooping before on both iPhone 12 MaxPlus and iPad. It was good and showing the video for months, and through different LayerSlider updates. So we're a little lost on what changed. Again, we've removed the caching tool and it's still not showing. Any advice beyond reverting to MP4 would be appreciated. Thank you.

Just before I replied to your ticket, we've made tests with multiple devices and multiple video files. We got the same results as you did. We tested the exact video file used on your site as well as another VP9 in WEBM file (among completely different formats). Desktop Safari appears to be working fine, but iOS devices have issues playing VP9/WEBM videos. It's possible that Apple changed something in their OS or web browser that would explain the reason why it was working before.

In the end, it's on the web browser to support the video files. LayerSlider can't do too much to workaround this issue, and there were no changes in the way we handle videos. You can easily verify that it's a mobile Safari issue and unrelated to LayerSlider by visiting a test page where there is no LayerSlider being used: https://base-n.de/webm/VP9%20Sample.html
