My home page has mainly layerslider animations, which have worked fine for some time now.
However, recently, the images stopped loading on mobile devices. I have checked an android phone using chrome, and an iPhone using Safari. Both load text, but not images, as shown in the attached screenshot.
The images load fine on desktop devices, even when the window is scaled to a smaller phone resolution.

Never mind...
I realised that the images were being blocked by the CloudFlare Image Optimisation setting from the wordpress cloudflare plugin...
