Do I need to deactivate the license on the staging site before making it live and then activate the license on the main site?
Yes, you need to deactivate the license on the staging and then you can activate it on your production site.
However, you can use LayerSlider on 3 additional development installations per site covered by your license.
Your dev site domain is not a standard developer / testing domain format, so we can't add it to our whitelist, since then anyone could request it with any domain. However, you do not need to change it, just create a domain alias. It is supported by almost every hosting provider and is usually just a few clicks away.
