I recently upgraded the PHP version of my WordPress websites (from 7.3 to 7.4), the consequence of which being a bug in the display of our homepage Layer slider (see attachment – A critical error has occurred on your site). I figured it might be caused by an obsolete version of your plugin and have bought today the up-to-date version. It does not make any difference.
Could you help me solve that problem? Thank you in advance.
WordPress should provide you with debug information in cases like these. If there's an error message provided, please share it with us so we can look into this issue.
You can also make a quick test by disabling other plugins and switching to a default WP theme to see if the issue goes away. Then you can find out which component is responsible for the error by re-enabling them one by one and watching when the issue resurfaces again.
The website belongs to a customer, I just cannot deactivate all plugins and reactivate them one by one just for test: it's basically their shop window and they would not accept a downgrading of their image. Besides, when I deactivate LayerSlider, everything is OK. It therefore implies that the problem lies basically with your plugin and a sort of incompatibility with PHP 7.4.
As for the debugging function, same problem: the debugging process strongly advises to make tests on a development website to avoid jeopardizing the real one… and I don't have a remedial website.
There is no problem with LayerSlider in PHP 7.4. We tested it with several versions of it, and we also use PHP 7.4 for development.
To be able to help, we need to see the error message. if you turn on WP debug mode for just one second, quickly view and copy the error message, then you can disable it.
Another alternative is that if you check the error in your PHP error log or send it to us. Probably you will find a fatal error which cause this issue.
