The play icon is hidden by default in case of a background video. Other options would be to hide the icon via custom CSS or manually modifying your selected skin. Unfortunately, these options require web development experience and aren't recommended without the necessary experience. To make this easier we're planning to bring a feature like this in a future update.

How can I hide the play icon layer when the video starts?
Or a different approach would be how I add an icon to the static initial image of a video layer?

Unfortunately this reply is not very helpful at all. Clearly you have not even looked at the website link to understand what I was asking.
I have now resolved the issue but I'll certainly NOT recommend Kreatura to my clients.
