Slider Site Speed

Our site isn't live yet, but I'm very nervous about site speed. I'm using several of your sliders and some are running really slow, especially the homepage slider which is taking about 5 seconds to load. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hello Jenny,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is Attila and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.

LayerSlider offers multiple options (Advanced tab) that you can utilize to increase performance. The conditional script loading option will only load the scripts when they are needed. The include scripts in the footer option helps with eliminating the render-blocking scripts. The slider markup caching option spares server resources and lowers database connections. Please also note that the caching is not present for logged in admins, so you might not see the difference on the back-end. There is also the Optimize for mobile option in the Slider Settings -> Mobile tab (hidden by default).

However, there is no way a slider should take 5 seconds to load, not even if it's a larger one with a lot of content, or when you're inserting mutilple ones. Something is definitely not right there, and it's likely not the slider.

Thank you for this information! I will try these things! Good to know too it shouldn't be the slider. I have several sliders on the home page and they all load fine it's just the initial one above the fold.

    Appreciate it!

I just realized all of those things have already been done, unfortunately. So not sure what else to change at this stage.

    Thank you though,

Very large images or very complex animations could result in slower load times for weaker devices/PCs. Could you please show us your site where we can see this ? Maybe we can notice something else.

  • Jenny Foust replied

The site isn't live yet. I'm also wondering if maybe the plug-in I'm using to keep the site hidden is slowing down the speed. Once live if it's still having issues I'll reach out again.

    Thanks!

I created most of my pages with single slider, but I'm starting to think SEO doesn't crawl sliders and this will negatively impact my page for SEO. Is this true?

    Thank you,
    Jenny

What exactly are you referring to, or what are you concerned about ? LayerSlider provides several SEO friendly settings and options.

  • Jenny Foust replied

How do I find the SEO-friendly settings and options? Just want to make sure I do everything right. I'm not easily finding them, but may be looking in the wrong spot. I just wondered because I used the Yoast app and it said I didn't have any content, so it made me wonder if that wasn't scanning the sliders. Thanks! Jenny

    Dear Jenny,

I am so sorry, the previous reply was not accurate. You don't have to worry about the SEO. The code generated by LayerSlider is fully SEO compatible. Google can index the text and also the images in the slider.

If you want to shorten the slider loading time, you can enable the Enhanced Lazy Load feature under the Misc menu of Slider Settings (you will need to turn on the Show Advanced Settings in the upper right corner first). But in this case Google will not be able to index your images.
