Empty links on LayerSlider elements fail WAVE accessbility test

I have a slider in the page (link here) which contains two elements (a button and a text section) linking to two pages on the site.

The links work, but the WAVE (website accessibility testing tool) reports them as empty, although clicking on the button and the text area does work.

See screenshot, showing what I'm referring to including the code which has an empty link.

Is there a way to solve this? Otherwise the site won't pass the accessibility requirement.

Unfortunately these kind of tests often flag certain solutions as errors, that are necessary for a complex plugin - such as LayerSlider - to work properly.

Currently, the layer linking is done by an empty <a> element  positioned over the layer level. We cannot wrap a DIV layer into an <a> element, as that would cause even more problems for other tester tools. We chose this method because of that and for mobile readiness, as it affects the mobile navigation positively.

We are sorry, but we cannot change this method. This is how LayerSlider works currently, and has worked for years.

    Thank you for your understanding.

This is not the type of reply I was expecting -- the accessibility test provided by WebAIM (https://webaim.org/) is not just another kind of test, it's THE standard any site has to adhere in order to be deemed accessible. And most educational and governmental sites have to be accessible in order to be used by people with visual impairments or other types of disabilities.

Oh and by the way, other great sliders such as Soliloquy ARE WebAIM friendly. I might end up having to abandon LayerSlider.
