We are hiring an outside vendor to run an accessibility audit on our site, and our ability to continue using LayerSlider relies on our slider passing the audit. We have seen many improvements to Layer Slider accessibility and are really pleased with the product so we want to be sure we are correctly implementing features to maximize the accessibility.
For instance, on the Link and Attributes tab, we have found that the ALT tag here does not successfully insert an ALT tag in our slides, although entering an ALT tag in the Media Library consistently adds it to the slides. Should the Link and Attributes ALT tag work? Are there other features in that tab that are designed improve accessibility that we should be using?
Also, are there any upcoming accessible features that you are working on? Any insights you can provide would be greatly appreciated. (FYI - we do intend to add the API Kill/Destroy command that you recommended in our last ticket before the audit.)
Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is Attila and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.
The Link & Attributes tab is for layers, not for slides. So you can only apply alt tag on layers (an image for example) there.
Yes, we are planning to improve even further the accessibility of the plugin in the future, but unfortunately at the moment I cannot provide you with any exact details.
I would suggest very strongly that you accelerate your program to make Layerslider accessible. I have 7 licenses and I'm going to have to abandon them all if accessibility solutions aren't found quickly. Accessibility is a huge issue in our industry at the moment and we are all working very hard to bring our sites up to the WCAG standards. The financial risks of not doing so are simply too high to allow a plugin such as yours - no matter how stunningly beautiful and useful - to compromise our sites. I would hate to see your product become irrelevant, but that is exactly what will happen if you don't prioritize these issues with your development team.
Agreed. I really hate to give up LayerSlider because it a reliable, robust, user-friendly plugin that produces outstanding results for our Websites. While some of us are under specific deadlines or increasing scrutiny now, all industries will eventually need to meet WCAG standards, and it would be great if LayerSlider could lead plugin development implementing WCAG standards as the way forward for continued business success. I know sliders are a complicated component to make accessible, but I would think LayerSlider developers would be the best equipped to do so considering the well-designed and continually improving slider they've already developed. Hopefully, we'll see more accessibility in LayerSlider soon.
