I always copy my sites and toggle between the two multisite installations to make it possible to do the bigger edits. I don't want to run into problems about licensing. What is the best option here? Two different licenses?

A purchase code can be used to activate 1 live site and up to 3 additional development installations. In line with the Envato's licensing terms, each site requires separate licenses with a unique purchase code. However, by deactivating your installation, you can freely migrate your license to another server/domain if you're moving your site.
An installation is considered a development environment if the site URL is either:
an IP address;
has no TLD (e.g. localhost, local, etc.)
the TLD or subdomain has a typical name (e.g. dev, test, local, stage, staging, etc.)
is on a whitelist (e.g. *.staging.wpengine.com)
Subdomains and individual sites in a WP Multisite environment are considered different domains/sites and you need to purchase separate licenses for each domain/site where you use LayerSlider. The only exception is when you are not running different sites and purely use subdomains for localization or special landing pages within the same installation.
Ok, I got 3 sites in one WP Multi using two language locations each. The test site is called "xtest.xxx" so that should fit well. But I go short anyway, right? I cannot deactivate licenses I need all up, I just protected the test sites by a front end login at the providers site.
So I actually need 3 licenses, one per site? Then the test site is free eventhough that one is a copy.
What do you recommend the best solution to get it right?
The test site can be activated with your current license as a development installation. But if you would like to activate your other multi-sites too, they will need separate licenses in this case.
