Can't get LayerSlider to work

I have been using Layer Slider with the Enfold theme for years, but noticed it was not updating even though my theme is current.  So, I decided to purchase the premium version of Layer Slider so it would update.  I added the license code to the layer slider section but it still won't update.  I disconnected it from the Enfold theme and now it doesn't even let me save new layer sliders or make changes.  I reconnected it.  I still can't make any changes or save anything.  I tried removing the license number from the Layer Slider section, but it won't let me.  Now I'm really in a pickle.

    Hello Danna,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is Attila and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.

Unfortunately some themes are restricting the update and/or activation method of the plugin that could result in problems like this.

I'd recommend to manually update the plugin by downloading the newest release from CodeCanyon and reinstalling LayerSlider.

You will need to completely remove the bundled version first, as there cannot be two instances of the plugin present on your installation.

Please note that your sliders and settings are stored in the database so they won't be deleted in the process.

You can also find detailed installation instructions in the documentation, please refer to the following URL: https://layerslider.kreaturamedia.com/documentation/#plugin-setup

I went to Enfold -> Layout Builder and and changed it from Activated to Not Activated.  Then I uploaded the plugin, which seemed to work.  But when I try to download a template, I get the attached error.

Problems with the importing method such as this, are usually related to server configuration issues.

Please check the LayerSlider System Status, located in the Options menu on the WordPress sidebar, for any error messages or notifications that could provide additional information on this case.
