slider on chrome browser does not display text

I have a number of sliders that produce images followed by text.  When I run the slider on my Macintosh Safari browser the text shows up.  But when I run the slider on my Macintosh Chrome browser the text does not show up.  This also happens on my Windows 10 Chrome browser.

Here is a couple of URL's that do not work on Chrome browser but work using Safari and Windows Explorer:

    https://slx.wqv.mybluehost.me/church-main-themes/#churchmissionslug

    https://slx.wqv.mybluehost.me/grace-hope-love-page/#hopeslug

I have checked these in the Wordpress slider preview window and they display the text but fail to work on the latest chrome browser on Window 10 and Macintosh.  I'm using the following OS and browsers for this testing.

For example it does not work on my macintosh running OS 10.13.6 with the latest Chrome browser 70.0.3538.67 (Official Build) (64-bit), but it does work with my Safari browser Version 12.0 (13606.2.11). It also does not work on Windows 10 using the latest Chrome browser, but works with Windows Explorer browser. The key point is that this does not work with the latest chrome browser on either Macintosh or Windows 10 platforms.

I'm including screen shots showing what I mean. I have gone round and round trying slider settings but nothing seems to work.  I can supply additional information if needed.

    Please help,

    Thanks,

    Gary J. Buck

    Hello Gary J. Buck,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is Attila and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.

I've checked your site, but for me the sliders and their text layers are being displayed currently. Have you managed to fix the problem in the meantime ?
I've tested this on Win10 with the latest Chrome (70.0.3538.67 Official Build 64-bit). See attached screenshots of the pages.
Even though I wasn't able to reproduce this on my end, I believe that it will be related to the play by scroll feature. As I can see all of your sliders under each other have it enabled. I guess it's possible that certain browser(versions) handle it differently, and when you jump from one play by scroll slider to the next, the text appear slightly different or even later.

No I have not been able to fix the problem.  It still occurs for me and the church Secretary that uses Windows 10 chrome browser.

You say the feature may be related to the play by scroll feature.  We currently have all these set, do you have a different recommendation for how they should be set?

Will keep my eye on the problem and see what other data I can gather on the problem.

    Thanks,

    Gary

Thank you for the feedback. We'll do some further tests with the dev team, to see if we can reproduce it and figure out something and get back to you with the results.

    Hi Attila,

I did some further testing on my Mac station and another Windows 10 station I have.  On the Mac station neither Safari or Chrome browsers displayed the the text for the sliders.  On the Window 10, the text was displayed using Windows Explorer but did not work for Chrome browser.  I have also had it fail on my Mac laptop using Safari failing intermittently and always fails to display text using latest Chrome browser.  So this can be an intermittent problem on some browsers.

Also the Pastor of our church reports he has seen the problem on occasion using his Windows 10 laptop.  The secretary of our church has it failing on her Windows 10 workstation all the time.  So other people are seeing the problem.

I have also played with the play by scroll features, toggling all three combinations between off and on with no success in getting rid of the problem.

Thank you for the feedback. We've looked into this further with my colleagues, but the text are appearing for all of us in Chrome on every device and desktop we used so far. So we are not yet sure what is happening on your end, but we'll try to investigate this further.

    Hi Attila,

I think I have finally come up with a single use case that fails on all platforms  I have tested today.

    1. Log onto a Windows 10 workstation and display.

    2. Change the display settings to be 1920x1080

    3. Bring up the latest Chrome browser.

    4. Make sure the chrome browser is in FULL SCREEN mode.

    5. Enter the following URL into the browser input: https://slx.wqv.mybluehost.me/church-main-themes/#churchmissionslug  Hit return.

    6. This brings up the Mission page that will not have any text displayed!!!

If you take the chrome browser out of FULL SCREEN mode and scale the browser window down so it smaller than the display resolution it will work in most cases, but not all.  I think this is a scaling problem with the text being scaled so that it is larger than the viewport for the text, and then does not display, but that is a guess.  Also if you try resolutions greater than 1920x1080 such as 3440x1440 (which I have on my 4K display) it fails in almost all cases whether the browser is in FULL SCREEN mode or not.

I hope this helps you isolate the problem.

    Thanks,

    -Gary Buck

Thank you for the feedback. I'll forward this to the dev team and they will check on it.

What is the status of this?  Did the development team figure out how to duplicate the problem?  I noticed that there is a new release of the myReligion theme, does that fix the problem with sliders not showing text on chrome and other browsers intermittently?

Just wondering what's up with this?

    Thanks,

Thank you. We've managed to reproduce the error. After some further investigation the dev team strongly believes that this is a conflict issue with another item on your site.

Please temporary disable other plugins and switch to a default WP theme to see if that solves the issue. Let us know of the results.

When I deactivate Jetpack by WordPress.com version 6.7 (the latest) the sliders all work using the Chrome browser.  This means of course I now have no Jetpack statistics.  This seems to be a conflict between the Jetpack plugin, the sliders, or maybe the MyReligion theme.  I really wish one of you would take ownership of this and fix the problem...

Just found out deactivating the Jetpack plugin fixed the problem with text not showing up in the sliders using chrome browser, it broke images showing up in the sliders using the Safari browser on my Mac...Just the text shows up in my sliders using Safari browser on Mac, no images show up!!!  This is getting very frustrating...

  • Gary J. Buck replied

Deactivated and ReActivated the WPSlider plugin and now both the Chrome and Safari browsers are displaying both text and images correctly.  I do not know what this means for you, but Ya!!! It's working Now!!!

We've had several issues with Jetpack in the past. That item -especially its Photon module- caused multiple problems. So the conflict was most likely caused by it.

But thank you for the feedback, glad you could solve the problem. If you need further assistance please let us know.
