The example sliders are usually coming with a preset thumbnail, that can only be changed manually. You can change it in the Slider Settings -> Misc -> Slider preview image.
I imported a demo slide and after customizing up and generating a new thumbnail the thumbnail stays the same in the ALL SLIDES view.
