I'm using a video as a slide background and have set the transition to crossfade but the video doesn't transition smoothly to the next slide, which is an image. The image transitions to the video just fine, but not from the video to the slide.

The slide transitions only work on slide background images at the moment. The slide images are used for the slide animations, but videos cannot be used the same way unfortunately. As alternate solution you could use the video as a normal layer and still have a slide image to animate.
