I want to link from one slide to another slide on the same slider. I have tried using the # with the slider number but that is not working

It is working. How exactly did you try to use the method ? You need to enter the #number to the Linking field of the layer under the Link & Attributes tab. Also, you need to make sure that this layer is on top, no other layer is over it, and the slide linking is not covering it either. Furthermore, please also make sure that there is no other element (could be transparent/empty) is positioned over the slider on your site.
