I would like to use the origami transition but it does not appears to be working. As I was testing I realized none of the transitions are working. In the side options sections I click on select transitions, choose one then use the close button in the upper right corner of the window and nothing happens?

The slide transitions are using the slide backgrounds to animate. If you don't have any slide background image set, there won't be proper slide transitions displayed.
