I am using the Enfold theme in Wordpress which came with Layerslider. I've purchased the plug-in today as I wanted to receive updates and add-ons.
Do I need to install the layerslider plugin separately since the item was already included with the Enfold template? It doesn't appear that I can update the plugin if I don't install it separately, but I might be mistaken.

Unfortunately some themes are restricting the update and/or activation method of the plugin that might prevent you from activating the bundled version.
I'd recommend to manually update the plugin by downloading the newest release from CodeCanyon and reinstalling LayerSlider.
You will need to completely remove the bundled version first, as there cannot be two instances of the plugin present on your installation.
Please note that your sliders and settings are stored in the database so they won't be deleted in the process.

So if I got layerslider as part of the theme package and the purchase code does not allow it to be activated does that mean I have to purchase layer slider separately and install it separately after removing the bundled version?
If you've received LayerSlider as a bundled plugin in your theme, you cannot use your theme's purchase code to activate it as they are two separate products, item support and updates will be provided by the theme author in this case.
Alternatively, you can purchase a license from us, so we can provide our support services for you, along with our auto-update solution, beta and early access releases and exclusive offers for our direct buyers as well.
So it seems that I am getting prompts to update the plugin but you're saying that I cannot get support unless I have it activated? How do I see what version I have?
