play by scroll not working properly

The layers I've built for a play by scroll homepage slider are not working properly. I want the background to already be visible when the user lands on the page, but it doesn't show up until someone starts scrolling. It doesn't disappear when they scroll back to the top of the page, but it doesn't come on to the screen until the scroll. The other layers I've built into the slider animate on all at the same time when the user first scrolls, but if they scroll back up and then down again they animate on properly. The first slide also does not animate off when the user first scrolls. The documentation for LayerSlider is not the least bit helpful, and I can't figure out how to change the settings to make the slider work the way I want it to.

    Hello Smartegies12,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is Attila and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.

If you want the play by scroll slider to start right off with the first frame intead of waiting for user scroll, you will need to enable the Start immediately option in the Slider Settings -> Slideshow tab.

Regarding your layers, you will need to set up separate keyframes, thus making the layers animate in at different times. You can apply keyframes on layers in the Layers -> Transitions tab.

The start immediately option is selected and each layer has the play by scroll keyframe option enabled, so I don't understand why it's not working when theoretically all of the right options are set up. I don't see any other settings related to keyframes besides the slider to turn it on and off. Even though I have each layer set to be visible until the end of its respective slide, the layers do not animate off when the slide changes.

I also have the play by scroll setting enabled in the slider settings. These are the setting I have set up for the slider and for one of the layers that is not animating off the screen.

As I can see the settings are correct, so it should be working. What I can think of is that a custom (scrolling) method on your site is interfering with the slider's play by scroll/autoplay settings. I'll let the dev team take a look at this to see what they can find and get back to you with the results.

Thanks Attila. If it helps, the site is running on the beaver builder theme and has the beaver builder plugin installed.

Thanks for the additional info. It seems like we will need an admin login to investigate this further. Could you please set up a temporary WP user for us, so we can check the admin as well ?

Thank you. My colleagues will look into this to see what they can find, and we'll get back to you shortly.

    Hello,

The problem was that you have enabled the pause layers option, and did not use a proper starting keyframe. We have disabled that setting, and set the image on the first slide as a keyframe, and now it's working correctly.

HI there, it still is not working properly. The background image is great and never leaves the screen, but neither do any of the other layers I want to animate off at the end of each slide. I want them all to animate onto the screen from the bottom or the side, and animate off of the screen to the top or opposite side. Each layer animates on perfectly,  but then stays in place and won't animate off the screen.

Here is a video of what is happening and some of my settings for one of the layers with these issues (the 10 year logo), and the timeline in case that helps at all.

Also, I would like to add a featured post widget or shortcode to one of the slides. I tried installing a featured post plugin and adding its line of shortcode in an HTML layer, but that didn't work. Is there a way to do this or do I need to rethink my design?

  • Smartegies12 replied

I actually fixed the scrolling issues, but I would still like to know if there is a way to add a featured post to the slider.

There is a dedicated option in the plugin to add WP posts dynamically to the slider.

You can add posts from WP dynamically with the Dynamic layer type. You can see the post placeholders when selecting this layer, and can manage and filter your posts with the Configure post options button. The Dynamic content slider in the Template Store utilizes this feature, so you can import it as an example to study it. The documentation also contains some information on this feature.

I guess my real question then is how do I make the dynamic layer actually show something on the front end page? If I just click on one of the placeholder tags underneath the content box, nothing actually shows up on the front end page of my site. The documentation doesn't provide any information about how to make the thing actually work.

I'm trying to achieve something like this latest post section of another website I made where I can place the whole post widget-type area into the slider. I'm not sure what placeholder tag to use, or how to configure it to show only one post or at least show something that isn't text.

First you will need to order and filter your posts with the Configure post options button. The post placeholders will act as a shortcode and pull the content of the selected posts, but first you will have to set what posts should it use, otherwise the results might come up empty.
