Pop-Up Slider - Repeating Each Visit Despite Settings

I have built a website for our new festival. I am attempting to build an email database, so I wanted to do a pop-up for First-Time Visitors only. (I originally had it to repeat every 30 days. However, it still popped-up every time I, or anyone else, entered the site. Almost as if the site isn't registering the initial visits.)

I would like the pop-up to repeat once every 30 days for Users.

I just changed my settings to attempt to get it to stop repeating, however, I am not having any luck. We are going on sale by Thursday, and I feel this makes us look very unprofessional.

    Current settings:
    Repeat Popup = Off
    Repeat after (30) days
    Prevent Re-opening = Off
    Include Pages = Home page
Shop Popup for users = None (I had them all checked, then checked just visitors. We aren't a sign-in type website, so I though this would have been fine with them all checked. I did check just Visitors though, minutes ago, and it is still repeating it.
Show only for first time visitors = ON

I feel like these should be the proper settings to, at the very least, have it pop-up only once per-user. Not every time they visit.

    Am I missing something?

    Hello pcbent,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. My name is Attila and I'm happy to assist you today. I appreciate your patience while we've been working towards your ticket.

Your settings seem to be fine, so normally it shouldn't re-open. Did you only insert the popup slider with the Target Pages section, or did you use shortcode or any other methods bofere ? The inserting method can interfere with the repeat control.

    Hello, Attila!

I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I did input the slider into the Home Page as shortcode. (Or rather, I use the Avada theme with Fusion Builder, and they have a Layer Slider Element, so I added it to the very bottom of the page.)

I didn't realize the Target Pages section, automatically added it to that page. I'm not sure why, I guess I must have assumed that it was for reference only.

So, to move forward, I should remove the Layer Slider element from the Home Page builder, and just click Home Page in the Target Pages section?

    Is that correct?

Thank you so much for your prompt response!

Update: I removed the Element from the Homepage. It no longer appears when I go to the website. (I tested it on other machines that have never been to the site before, and they aren't seeing the pop-up either.)

So, now my question is this...

I have 'Home page' selected in the Target Pages section, however, I have all "users" switched off under the "Target Audience" and I have "Show only for first time visitors" switched on. **See attached

Yes, that is right. You will have to remove any earlier shortcode or other inserting method, and insert the popup slider only with the built-in Target Pages section instead.

Regarding the target audience. Selecting only the first time visitor option is not sufficient. You will also have to select the roles you would like to share the slider with. The first time visitor option is an extra 'addition' to those.

I believe it should work this way. Let us know of the results.

It tends to be a rather difficult thing to test. From what I can see, it doesn't work. When I select "Visitors" as the Target Audience and then First time visitors, it still pops every time. Unless, it seems when I am logged into my WordPress dashboard.

We are going "on sale" for our music festival in 3 hours, and I was hoping to have it figured out. However, when I was doing my testing, I only had one device that I could feasibly wipe all of the Website Data each time I needed to see if it would pop-up. Any of the times where it popped up, it continued to pop up on my tablet, even after exiting the site,  closing out Safari. All of that.

At this point, I turned it into the settings I believe they should be at (you mirror that sentiment in your other posts.). It still pops up every time my iPad tries to go to SandJamFest.com. But I had to have something for an important fan based data capturing day like today.

That is strange. Could you please set up a temporary WP login for us, so we can check on this further in the back-end ?

  • pcbent replied

Yes, absolutely. I have a support login already created. How many I go about getting you this info without it being public? I haven't used these support pages before. I am guessing I need to select the "Private" switch on the post?

  • [deleted] replied

Yes, you will need to enable the Private button when sending the message. That way, only you and us can see it.

the theory behind the pop-up is to build our email database for our festival. It's a brand new festival this time around.

I'd like every new user to get the pop-up, but I don't want them to see it again for 60 days.

Thank you, but unfortunately the login does not seem to be working. I get the following when I try to login: ERROR The password you entered for the username Support is incorrect.

    Hi Attila,

I must admit, I can't get this to work, either. Embedding the popup into a page will show it on every load. But using the target pages option does not seem to work, even with "All pages" selected and all target audiences selected.

Could this be a theme-related issue? We're using OceanWP.

    Dear Rene,

Please open a ticket for your case and show us your site where we can check this.
