How do I update your product to the newest version? Must I wait for Highend Theme to update their theme and include your new version? amI doing something dangerous here by buying a liense and trying to update your plugin directly outside the control if my Highend Theme?

Unfortunately some themes are restricting the update and/or activation method of the plugin that could result in problems like this.
I'd recommend to manually update the plugin by downloading the newest release from CodeCanyon and reinstalling LayerSlider.
You will need to completely remove the bundled version first, as there cannot be two instances of the plugin present on your installation.
Please note that your sliders and settings are stored in the database so they won't be deleted in the process.

I acquired Layerslider WP last year as part of the Highend Theme (currently Ver 3.4.9.1)
I also purchased a license for Layerslider WP for support purposes.
The plugin on my WP Admin telle me that an update is available with this message: There is a new version of LayerSlider WP available. View version 6.6.7 details. Automatic update is unavailable for this plugin.License activation is required in order to receive updates for LayerSlider. Purchase a license or read the documentation to learn more. Got LayerSlider in a theme? Update through Highend Plugins.
When I try to update in the plugins screen I get an error: Update Failed: Update package not available.
When I download the Wordpress Files from Envato and try to update with "Add New" in Plugins I get this error message:
