LayerSlider requires PHP 5.3.0 or newer. Please contact your host and ask them to upgrade PHP on your web server. Alternatively, they often offer a customer dashboard for their services, which might also provide an option to choose your preferred PHP version.

The plugin usually does not detect the PHP version falsely. We did not receive this kind of reports either. Could you please verify the current PHP version that you are using ? Your hosting usually provides you with an admin area where you can see and change the version. It's also common that you can choose from multiple versions on this panel, please check whether you have 5.7 selected and let us know of the results.
