My question is what size should the image background be in my slider so the browser doesn't have to resize. At the moment they are 1280 x 500 but i am not sure if thats correct. The slide is full width 100%

This way your images won’t lose much from their quality when they needs to be enlarged, but you can minimize load time. The slider will automatically adjust their size to fit for the viewing environment.
