My web developer uncovered this problem when I updated both LayerSlider and my Specular theme.
"In the core theme file codeless_slideshow, layer_slider_id used to be assigned properly as $cl_redata['layerslider']+1; but after the theme update was set to a true/false is_numeric test + 1, which as the slider_id is always numeric would always return 1, and thus 1+1 = 2. So it would always pull the slider with id=2. This will be broken for every person using the theme+layerslider after the update."
Also, how do I have the sliders not have a transition? I thought previously there was a static first slide option so that if you are using just one slide as a hero image, it wouldn't slide in when page is loaded. After update I cant find setting.

The static starting slide option was removed from the plugin, and it was made as the default behavior for every slider.

The dev team confirmed that the issue you described has no relation to LayerSlider. It's caused by your theme. Therefore we cannot solve it from our end unfortuantely. Your theme will need to adjust their methods for this to work again.

The dev team confirmed that the issue you described has no relation to LayerSlider. It's caused by your theme. Therefore we cannot solve it from our end unfortuantely. Your theme will need to adjust their methods for this to work again.
Alternatively, in the meantime you can still use LayerSlider's built-in publishing methods. They should be working the same: https://support.kreaturamedia.com/docs/layersliderwp/documentation.html#publishing-sliders
