I've been using the Envato LayerSlider WordPress plugin for some time with no problems. But just now, when updating one of the sliders that had out of date links for the images, the new links did NOT show up on pages where the slider is deployed. Clearing cache had no effect. Of course, the changes were repeatedly saved. I tried on different browsers, and on different pages (e.g. the page linked above; the slider alternates between two physicians. The result was always the same: the links do NOT update.
Even more strange: when I tried changing text for the same slider image, e.g. text in the picture caption, that updated just fine on the site. But not the links. I tried changing from a relative to an absolute URL, and I even tried deleting the link entirely, and changing it to a completely different URL. While it updates in the LayerSlider plugin, the link update doesn't show up online. Everything else I update shows perfectly. This is very strange behavior that I've never encountered before, and I use the plugin often, and this is a very straightforward setting. I suppose I could entirely re-create the slider, but I shouldn't have to do that. I'm using a current version, 6.5.1.
Thanks,
Steve
(p.s., I absolutely couldn't figure out how to send this using my existing account email. The support set-up is impossibly confusing to navigate. I entered my existing email but this page rejected it as already existing!! So I entered a new email address.)
This is indeed strange. Could you please set up a temporary WP login and a test slider that we can use for us so we can investigate this from the back-end ?
Make sure to set the message to private so others can't see it.
Yes, I did. I have looked around in the back-end and was able to reproduce the problem. However I did not find anything wrong in the plugin, it is saving and updating the changes properly. The problem is being generated on the front-end.
I believe it is going to be related to some kind of caching.
Please look for any caching plugin or solution (could be part of your theme or another plugin) on your site that could be related to this.
Nope. I figured out the problem, and it has nothing to do with caching.
I just drove myself crazy for over an hour troubleshooting this, including duplicating the slider, duplicating images, clearing cache, disabling cache, etc. Nothing worked – until I thought to click on "Show More Options". Where, of course, there is an option for Slide Linking for the entire slide. That's where I found the linked address that I couldn't get rid of. (I had forgotten that this was there!)
Problem is, that without opening "Show More Options", the only visible linking option is the "Link & Attributes" tab in the Layers section, except for the very tiny print on the "Show More Options" button ("Linking, Ken Burns, Parallax"). And any URL entered in "Slide Linking" under "Show More Options" in the "Slide Options" area overrides all URLs entered under the Layers tab. That makes perfect sense. But it's easy to get confused like this. I would respectfully suggest that YOU were confused because you didn't catch it either, instead blaming the problem on caching. (Or perhaps you gave me too much credit for not forgetting the other linking option! :)
The URL option under layers is extremely useful if it's desired to enter more than one link within a given slide based on where in the slide the person is clicking. Or, for example, adding a link to a button. So, I'm not in any way suggesting that this be removed.
But perhaps you might consider a friendly suggestion to change the heading under "Link & Attributes" in the Layers section, instead of simply saying "Linking", to say "Linking for this layer; for entire slide, use Slide Linking under Slide Options".

Hi, did you receive my private reply with all of the login information sent two days ago? Thanks.
