Can you give me some general direction re how I could have a title to rotate as the first image on the above site?

The layer animation options such as rotate can be found under the Transition tab of the Layers section. You can set the layer to rotate there and also set its timing to come up first.
There are multiple sources available you check that will help you get started using LayerSlider.
You can import the demo sliders from the Template Store to see what settings we used and how we set them up exactly.
You can also read the tooltips with descriptions of the settings by hovering over each one of them.
