Layer tming, formatting text, links, hover effects

On the Front Page, you will see a slider next to the News graphic. I have run into a number of issues:

    1. I'm finding it incredibly difficult to adjust the timing of the appearance of various layers. For example, the name that appears under the photo on the left is set to appear with 0 delay under Opening Transition. Yet, it appears very late in the time line. Nothing I do seems to affect that. Other elements that have delay settings (for example the two buttons) do work. It seems random. The Timeline display on the Layerslider page only shows the relative timeline, but I can't find that it can be used to make adjustments.

    2. There are two buttons. They should obviously each have a link. I would like them to also be able to display Hover effects. But I discovered that the Hover effect only works if there is no link. When I add a link, then the Hover effect disappears. For example, the "Learn More About COME HOJE" button has a link the Hover effect doesn't work. I removed the link for the other button, "Read the NYT article", and the Hover effect works fine. (It's the exact same coding for the Hover for both buttons.) WHY should that happen?

    3. It's incredibly difficult to format text. The parameters entered on the style page work, but if I use <p> to separate paragraphs, it disables everything entered on the style page.  So, I used double <br> in the main text section, and that worked. But in the smaller text box (dark gray background), the double <br> works fine in the Preview view, but NOT on the production page. WHY?

    4. I added a video as the second slide. I'd like that to be viewed only if the "Learn More About COME HOME" button is clicked. The #next link option only advances to the next slide. Is there a setting that would allow the video to be seen only if the link is clicked?

Thanks. You should still have the Admin password I sent with my previous ticket last week, but if not, i can re-send it privately. Let me know.

    Hey Steve,

The timeline provides an excellent overview about every single layer transition and how they work together, by checking this you can adjust the timing settings of your layers accordingly. One thing to keep in mind is that the transitions are adding up, for example the delay and the animation time together can make the layer appear later. You can also use the premade values with the 'Start when' option to connect the timing of the layers easier. Reading the tooltip of each setting by hovering on them also provides useful information and description for better understanding.

Currently there is an issue in the plugin regarding layers that are both linked and have hover effect on them. We are going to include a fix for this in the next update.

The linebreaks (BR) and other tags are removed when you are applying an opening or ending text transition on the text layer. These animations were meant to be used on a coherent text block. You will have to use separate layers for each line if you want to keep these text transitons.
Regarding the styling settings and formats, the slider is applying the styles on the layer itself. If you create an inner element, only the inheritable styles will be applied on it. You will either have to use text-only inline formats or if you want to write your own html, you will have to take care of  the styling settings as the html requires it.

At the moment there is no option in the plugin to create an on-click event or to trigger a layer with another one. If you are familiar with web development and custom coding, you can create this effect by using the LayerSlider API, but otherwise there is no way to achieve it currently.

Thanks much, Attila. But this is not working:

<< You can also use the premade values with the 'Start when' option to connect the timing of the layers easier. >>

Do you mean, 'Start at', in the 'TIMING & TRANSFORM' box under 'Opening Transition properties'? For the photo caption box that reads "Barbara L. McAneny MD - CEO" at the bottom left corner, 'Start at' is set at 0 msec. Yet, that box doesn't appear for about 8 seconds. When you say that the transitions are adding up, I don't understand what that means in terms of the start time. For example, I have the caption I just referred at the top of the layers. The timeline shows that it is supposed to appear immediately. Yet, there is that 8 second delay, and in fact, it appears last after everything else. I don't understand this, and I don't understand how to fix it. Something is wrong, and I don't know what it is.

I will send a separate private message with admin access. This is holding up implementation of the development site, and my client is hoping that could go live today. So, it's a rather urgent problem. Your help perhaps with some more specific suggestions is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again.

Yes, I was referring to that option.

I have logged in and the problem is that you have very large duration values for the layers. This is what I meant by that they are adding up. The start of the layer (Start at)  is only the point in time when it starts animating in, but it will only finish the transition at the end of the Duration value.

For example, in the Barbara L. McAneny MD - CEO layer you have 20000ms set for the duration. This means that it will take 20 seconds for its animation to finish. It start at 0 but will only be fully visible after 20 seconds.

Thank you, thank you... my mistake was that I confused the duration of animating in with the duration that the slide is visible!! Now I know how to fix it. I appreciate your patience and your help.

    Hi again,

One more issue for this slider. The transitions are all working nicely for the layers within each of the two slides. But for some reason that I cannot figure out, there is NO transition from Slide 1 to Slide 2 unless I unhide buttons and do this manually. The slide duration times are set, and I made sure that the duration for the slide was greater than the layer transitions. Nothing works. Other sliders that I've created advance without any problem. Only this one is giving me problems. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks,

    Steve

Please double check your settings. The problem is most likely caused by that the slide duration is shorter than the layer transition times. As mentioned before the layer transitions are adding up (opening, middle, loop, hover, ending, etc) so they can easily take more time to animate than the slide itself.

    Dear Attila,

I double and triple checked my settings before sending my last message below. I set the slide duration to be much greater than the layer transition times, and I just increased it to a ridiculously long duration of 60000 msec and still the slide will not change from the first slide to the second.

When you say cumulative, do you mean to say that the durations of each of the layers need to be added up, despite the fact that the layers overlap, so that all of the layers are completely done much sooner than the time if I added all of the layer durations as if they were executed sequentially, which they aren't.  So, for example, Slide 1 is complete done in 15 seconds (15000 msec).

Said another way: it makes sense that the duration of the slide should not have to be longer than the duration of the layer with the biggest Opening Transition total of 'Start At' + 'Duration'. Is that correct?

But even adding up all of the times as if they were sequential, that doesn't come close to 60000 msec. And the slide still won't advance from the first to the second.

Please note that my site has now moved from the development URL (nmohc.swcp.com) to its permanent URL, 'nmcancercenter.org'. The development site is still online for a short while longer while final testing is underway, but PLEASE look at the new production site, which is where the current adjustments have been made. I will send you update login credentials via private message.

I also have a new problem. I am unable to update the LayerSlider plugin. When I try, I get this message, that makes no sense at all:

An error occurred while updating LayerSlider WP: Before you can receive product updates, you must first authenticate your Elegant Themes subscription. To do this, you need to enter both your Elegant Themes Username and your Elegant Themes API Key into the Updates Tab in your theme and plugin settings. To locate your API Key, log in to your Elegant Themes account and navigate to the Account > API Key page. Learn more here. If you still get this message, please make sure that your Username and API Key have been entered correctly

LayerSlide is not sold by Elegant Themes. I contact Elegant Themes, and they confirmed that this is true. So while I do have an Elegant Themes subscription, it makes no sense that authenticating my Elegant Themes subscription will affect LayerSlider. Can you please tell me what is going on with this? (If LayerSlider *is* now being sold by Elegant Themes, does that mean that your subscribers who don't have an Elegant Themes subscription now have to purchase one in order to continue being able to update LayerSlider?)

I should also mention that the new production site 'nmcancercenter.org' is set up as a multisite. But I can't imagine that this would cause an erroneous requirement to authenticate my Elegant Themes subscription. The theme for my site is Beaver Builder, not one of the ET themes.

Can you please explain why this is happening and what I am supposed to do now to update the plugin?

Thank you. I know this is long, but I really need your help. I am getting a bit frustrated.

The Timeline view under the preview window provides a great way to get a summary of your layers and their timings. It displays every animation piece, duration and overlap as well.
However the second slide not starting is most likely related to something else, not to the layer timings.
I have tried to login with the provided credentials to check on it but they do not seem to be valid. I get the following: ERROR The password you entered for the username kreatura_temp is incorrect.

Regarding the update problem. LayerSlider is still our product, it is sold by us and we have no relation to the Elegant Themes other than that they are including our plugin to some of their works as a bundled item.

Please note that the Beaver Builder is not a theme, it's only a page builder. Also, Elegant Themes is the company's name and they are selling multiples themes, including Divi for example. You are most likely using one of their themes, hence the update notification.

We have looked into it and this message is displayed by the theme itself. It seems the theme overwrites and changes LayerSlider's default updating methods.
Unfortunately there is not much we can do from our end as the issue is generated by the theme's behavior.
I'm afraid you will need to contact the author of the theme again with this case. They should be able to provide more insight on this matter and hopefully a solution on how you can prevent the theme's custom methods from applying on our plugin.

Alternatively you could try to switch themes (for example to a default WP one) and try to update LayerSlider that way, this will likely prevent your current theme from interfering with our plugin.

Thank you for the feedback, I believe it's possible that the Elegent Themes plugin is also able to interfere with LayerSlider. Even if it's not a theme it might still contain the same behavior to overwrite certain parts of our plugin. We had some issues with the Elegant Themes' product in the past unfortunately.

I believe for now it would be best if you could manually install the newest version. Your sliders and settings are stored in the database so they won't be deleted in the process. You can also find installation and updating instructions in the documentation if needed: https://support.kreaturamedia.com/docs/layersliderwp/documentation.html#installation

The new credentials are seem to be working, I was able to login. I'll take a look at the slideshow problem as well and get back to you.

Thanks. I just deleted and then re-installed LayerSlider with the current version without any problem.

(FYI: I did try de-activating the ET plugin but that made no difference.)

Thanks for your follow-up with the slider problem.

I've managed to locate the problem. The Auto-start start slideshow was disabled in the Slider Settings. This means that the first slide will animate but the slider will not progress to further slides. Since there are no start/stop buttons or nav arrows enabled, the slideshow cannot be forced to proceed manually either.

I have enabled the Auto-start start slideshow option and the now the slider should proceed to the second slide after 60 seconds (the whole duration of the first slide) on the live site as well.

Thanks again! I'm sorry that I missed seeing the Auto-start setting. It all works perfectly now! I really appreciate your help. We can close this ticket.

    Cheers,
